5 Steps To An Amazing Engagement Session

1.     DO IT!

Some couples are super stoked about doing engagement sessions, while other are very hesitant. If I could only give you one piece of advice it would be to do an engagement session. This gives you a chance to get to know your photographer/videographer better and make sure you guys jive for the wedding day! You get to see how they pose you and interact with you, as well as how awesome the photos turn out. We include engagement sessions in all our packages because we find when a couple does an engagement session they are way more comfortable on the day of, making for a more efficient portrait session and stunning photos. Plus, with an engagement session you get some cute photos to display at your shower, wedding day, or for your save the dates!

The location of your engagement session should reflect you and your partner. One option is to pick a space that is sentimental. Perhaps your first date, where he/she proposed, or somewhere you visit often together. Another option is to pick a feel that represents you. For example, a forest, a vintage town, a barn, or maybe a field of flowers would suit you best. Your photographer can help you pick the perfect setting for your engagement session. Just don’t forget that some spaces do require permits.

3.     PICK A TIME

The best time to do engagement sessions is during “golden hour” which is while the sun is setting. This time changes throughout the year and will be different based on where you are in the world. This is definitely something you should chat with your team about and book to get this stunning time of the day.

Your outfit can help represent you and your partner during your engagement sessions, so you need to pick something that you feel yourself in. However, it is important to avoid intense patterns, as they are distracting in photos, logos, such as sports teams or brands, and socks with sandals. That said, hit up Pintrest for some ideas, or send a photo of your attire to your photographer/videographers to make sure it’s engagement session ready.

Engagement sessions should be fun! You are marrying the love of your life and this is a chance to capture that amazing fact! Smile, not because you have to, but because you are truly and deeply happy.
